Walking Leisurely Around Cornwall Park
-- Poetry by Peter Huang
I walk leisurely around Cornwall Park,
The trees, here and there, big or small, form into
A shady forest, decorated with winding concrete paths,
The thick, green grass covers the ground like
A huge unbroken carpet upon which,
I wish I were as complacent as those sheep and cows,
Sleeping soundly when the soft spring wind caresses me.
And into the arms of the blue sky and the patchy clouds high above,
I smell the green grass, the fragrance of flowers unknown to me.
I then could be as happy as those sheep and cows,
And my heart and mind immune to death, worries,
Or even free of the annoying, regrettable memories.
I walk into the cherry trees, each topped with blossoms,
Like a young lady holding a pink parasol.
The gleeful voice of children running among them,
The whisperings of lovers sitting under.
All that is not disturbing, but reminiscent of bygone days,
Of how it felt, and days used to be,
When you walked by my side, hand in hand with me.
Like a young lady holding a pink parasol.
The gleeful voice of children running among them,
The whisperings of lovers sitting under.
All that is not disturbing, but reminiscent of bygone days,
Of how it felt, and days used to be,
When you walked by my side, hand in hand with me.
I walk around Cornwall Park, happy and complacent,
The park lays out grass carpet for me,
The cherry trees stand in rows,
Holding up parasols for me.
The children's voice gleeful;
Lovers' whisperings reminiscent of those old days.
The park lays out grass carpet for me,
The cherry trees stand in rows,
Holding up parasols for me.
The children's voice gleeful;
Lovers' whisperings reminiscent of those old days.

Peter Huang
